Harvey Henderson

 Harvey Henderson

The letter may not be easy to read but was accompanying the photo of Harvey with his car. A record of what he said and some explanatory notes follow.

Dear Bessie

Thanks for Mary’s letter. Was very disappointed to know you could not spare time to even send me a line. I received a really nice letter from Daisie but have not had a line from Ada. You no doubt will recognise the photo of which is simply a rough one taken with my car while waiting for some officers in the Military Camp of which I spend the greater part of my time. Hoping you will try and find time to write me a few lines

Your affect Brother

Harvey

Notes

This is Harvey writing to his sister-in-law Bessie Louise Henderson (nee Humphrey) wife of his brother Tom John Henderson. Mary whose letter he had received was the fourth of their children, birth date not yet determined but probably about 1920. In which case this is likely to have been written in the late 1920’s but no idea where he was other than near a Military Camp. Daisie was Bessie’s sister (Daisy Humphrey) and Ada was another sister being my grandmother who obviously had not written. Interestingly he is talking as a “brother” to the Humphrey sisters who are sisters in law
