It appears that originally the
family name was Batcheldor as this is how Richard and
his family were recorded in 1841 and 1851. However by
1861 the direct family at least had dropped the “d”.
I have not yet tried to
explore further back than Richard Batcheldor born in
Barby Northamptonshire in 1796 but will be attempting
this later.
The descendants of an
Elizabeth Batcheldor, who was the sister of a Richard
Batcheldor born in Barby in 1796, have been traced in
Australia. There cannot have been many Richard
Batcheldor’s born in that year in that little village.
Again I will follow this up.
One of Richard’s son’s,
William, was the ancestor who moved to London and
started the family which eventually met the Bussicott
and Tanner families there. Although starting as an
agricultural labourer he somehow met and married a
Cornish girl and became a policeman. He died from
injuries received whilst on duty in London and his name
is recorded on the Police Roll of Honour which is
detailed later.
The information on the various
families can be accessed through the names indicated or
you can just scroll through the site.
