THE BATCHELOR FAMILY

It appears that originally the family name was Batcheldor as this is how Richard and his family were recorded in 1841 and 1851. However by 1861 the direct family at least had dropped the “d”.

I have not yet tried to explore further back than Richard Batcheldor born in Barby Northamptonshire in 1796 but will be attempting this later.

The descendants of an Elizabeth Batcheldor, who was the sister of a Richard Batcheldor born in Barby in 1796, have been traced in Australia. There cannot have been many Richard Batcheldor’s born in that year in that little village. Again I will follow this up.

One of Richard’s son’s, William, was the ancestor who moved to London and started the family which eventually met the Bussicott and Tanner families there. Although starting as an agricultural labourer he somehow met and married a Cornish girl and became a policeman. He died from injuries received whilst on duty in London and his name is recorded on the Police Roll of Honour which is detailed later.

The information on the various families can be accessed through the names indicated or you can just scroll through the site.

First Generation
Richard Batcheldor (1796–1865)  and his wife Sarah are the earliest ancestors on whom we have information
Second Generation – children of Richard and Sarah
•  Richard’s daughter  Sarah  (1833-) and the third generation her son Albert G Egan because although not a direct link it was an interesting path to follow for me
•  Richard’s son  William Batchelor  (1824-1869) and his wife Harriet who are our ancestors
Third Generation – children of William and Harriet
Charles Joseph Batchelor (1855- )  and his wife Elizabeth
George Batchelor (1860- )  and his wife Susan – our ancestors
   Joseph Batchelor (1863 - )
James Langdon Batchelor (1866 - )  and his wife Amy Zilpah
William Henry Batchelor (1867 - )  and his wife Amelia
   William and Harriet’s girls –   Henrietta (1859-), Harriet (1860 -) and Mary J (1870 -)
Fourth Generation – the children of George and Susan
The fourth generation included Henrietta (my grandmother who married James Bussicott and can be found on that section of the web site) and Lilian (or Laura as she was known) who married into the Tanner family. Exploring the other siblings e.g. Gladys who married George Tyson is still to be documented
Fifth Generation  - children of Laura and Charlie Tanner
This generation comprises Ray and Pauline Tanner
Sixth Generation – children of Ray and Pauline Tanner
This generation comprises Ray’s children, Nicholas and Zoë, and Pauline’s children Amanda and Sarah and these can be found on the Family Tree section.
The Seventh Generation
are the grandchildren of Ray and Pauline Tanner and these are detailed in the Family Tree section
