Batchelor

Third Generation

Charles Joseph Batchelor (1855–) and Elizabeth Ann

I have tried to trace what happened to the children of William and Harriet.

Charles, the eldest, had been born in Old Cleeve Somerset in 1855. He was still living with his mother in the 1881 Census in Willesden as a 26 year old house painter.

In the quarter to June 1882 he married Elizabeth Ann Tout in Chelsea which gives us our first Chelsea connection.

Elizabeth Ann Tout was born in 1861 in Chelsea.

In the quarter to December 1883 Henrietta was born in Chelsea. Note this is not “our” Henrietta who is the daughter of George.

In 1888 a second daughter Marguerite was born in Pimlico.

In the 1891 Census Charles Joseph (36) was living with his wife Elizabeth Ann (30) at 292 Kensal Road in Chelsea. Charles was a house painter and Elizabeth was a shirt and collar dresser? Henrietta was 7 and Marguerite was 3. Also living there was Jessie Radford a 14 year old children’s nurse.

In the 1901 Census Charles Joseph (46) was living with his wife Elizabeth Ann (40) at 268 Ladbroke Grove, Kensal Green Paddington. Charles was a house painter and Elizabeth a laundress as was 17 year old Henrietta. Marguerite was aged 13.

What happened to this family we do not know but the male line will almost certainly have died out.
